BULLHORN
OCTOBER 2015

Hello friends, thanks for opening this email. It's been a while!

You'll notice a slightly different look to Bullhorn and that's because I've decided to use this as a personal news letter -- I haven't done freelance PR for years but wanted to make that clear -- I will continue to send some listings of events I'm involved in, just once a month and will obviously include events I produce with JAZZ.FM91 frequently, as the station produces some of the greatest concerts in the city.

Of course if you don't care to know about my events you can simply click [UNSUBSCRIBE] and be taken off this list.

I hope you stay with me and encourage you to contact me anytime.

bullhorn media - MONDAY OCTOBER 5. HENDRIK MUERKENS The Music of Antonio Carlos JobimMONDAY OCTOBER 5

HENDRIK MUERKENS "The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim"

THE OLD MILL INN
21 Old Mill Road, Toronto

For tickets visit: jazz.fm or click here

I've been producing shows for JAZZ.FM91 for over a decade and I believe this is the third time Hendrik has come up for us. He packs venues because he is, quite simply one of the great living harmonica players in the country and also plays the vibraphone. His band is stellar: Jeremy Price (flute), Attila Fias (piano), Paco Luviano (bass), Richard Brisco (drums) and guest vocalist Luanda Jones. If you have heard Toots Thielemans or Guido bass on a chromatic harmonica, you'll have a rough idea what to expect. This show kicks off the JAZZ.FM91 Sound of Jazz Concert Series™, the longest running jazz concert series in the country!

bullhorn media - SATURDAY OCTOBER 10. George Koller Presents: GENEVIEVE MARENTETTE and ROBERT SCOTTSATURDAY OCTOBER 10

George Koller Presents:
GENEVIEVE MARENTETTE and ROBERT SCOTT

TRINITY ST. PAUL'S CENTRE
427 Bloor Street West (just W of Spadina)

7:00pm (doors at 6:00pm) All Ages - No Cover (PWYC)

George Koller is not just one of Canada's greatest multi-instrumentalists…he's also a culture hero and even producer. He used this gorgeous church for his International Diva's Series this past year and on October 10 he's turning the hall over to one of my favourite duos. David Clayton Thomas recently recorded a duet with Genevieve Marentette on his latest disc, "Combo" and Michael Buble has said of Robert Scott: "Robert is one of the most dynamic players I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He is simply a force of nature." Genevieve will have copies of her CD "Gigi" available and Robert Scott will have his solo disc "Pianoptic" on hand after the show. Family friendly – and no cover!

bullhorn media - TUESDAY OCTOBER 13. CLAUDIO FILLIPINI Solo PianoTUESDAY OCTOBER 13

CLAUDIO FILLIPINI Solo Piano

JAZZ BISTRO
251 Victoria Street Toronto
416.363.5299

w - jazzbistro.ca | tickets - click here

Hey, it's no secret that one of my biggest joys in life (along with single malt scotch and sushi) is solo piano music. It takes me away, clears my brain and more often than not, makes my spirit soar! So you can imagine how excited I was when Ross Porter, President and CEO of JAZZ.FM91, told me we'd be offering an Italian Piano Series at Jazz Bistro this season.

This month, Claudio Filippini is coming to town to play the gorgeous Steinway B, called the Red Pops. This 6-foot 10-1/2 inch piano is the same model that once graced the famous Rudy Van Gelder Studio. I've had rave reviews from renowned pianists who have tickled its ivories. Filippini's inventive approach to standards and his own insightful compositions have garnered him a place playing alongside artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Mike Stern and Dee Dee Bridgewater. I suggest you pick up tickets for the other pianists for this series as well as it's likely to sell out.

Cover One Another is a concert series that came from a conversation between Musical Director and guitarist Eric St. Laurent and vocalist Geneviève Marentette about how to spread positivity, grow community and work alongside admirable colleagues. The show will include a house band consisting of Attila Fias on piano, Jordan O'Connor on bass, Mark Kelso on drums and Eric St. Laurent on guitar and bandleader.

I love that they are featuring some of my very favourite singers who are also incredible song writers and everyone is covering each others' material. It will be both familiar and totally new!

Dovercourt House is renowned for hosting weekly dance events of all kinds. From swing dance lessons followed by a live band on Saturday nights, to salsa, waltz, 80's nights... I always love it there! On October 30th on the main floor I'll be emceeing and giving out prizes for best zombie and best dancer. DJ's spin all kinds of pop, rock, funk etc. for dancing and Astro Groove will perform a live show.

The theme is dark but the people are oh so friendly! Zombies, monsters and aliens are welcome!

You can also contact Monster Makeup Factory and book an appointment that day or on site should you want to be "zombie-fied".
