Join Barbra Lica for an unforgettable night of jazz standards and original compositions at Hugh’s Room. Ms. Lica was first discovered by Paul Novotny and Joe Sealy and received regular airplay for over a year on JAZZ.FM91 with the song "You’re Gonna Miss Me" from their CD "Songs". She was also a guest vocalist on recordings by David Statham and Peter Appleyard and now, finally, she is releasing a full CD as leader and vocalist. For this special occasion, Barbie will be joined by Steve Heathcote on drums, Brian Dickinson on piano, Reg Schwager on guitar, John Johnson on woodwinds and producer Paul Novotny on bass. Ray Jessel was the last lyricist to work with Richard Rodgers and was co-composer and lyricist of the Broadway Sherlock Holmes musical, Baker Street. His songs have been recorded by Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante, Richard Burton, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Vikki Carr, and he is represented on recent CD's by Michael Feinstein, John Pizzarelli and Karen Akers. On top of all this, Ray has written scripts for everything from The Carol Burnette Show to Love Boat…and knows how to spin a good yarn. Opening the show will be Pam Hyatt (with Peter Hill on piano) who will be returning to Hugh’s Room with a CD Launch for "Pamalot" on November 5 at Hugh’s Room. On October 20th at noon, thousands of zombies will meet at Nathan Phillips Square and at 3pm the five "kill-o-meter" stroll through the city commences. Out of town guests please take note: The Sheraton Hotel directly across from city hall has special rates for zombies. The after party is held at The Power House of Terror (charityhaunt.ca), and will feature Ivan the witch and the Mental Floss Sideshow.

Sly Blue are a New York based swing band who will be coming up to Toronto for a third time to celebrate their latest CD, recorded in Toronto at Canterbury Sound this past spring. The band features signer Chris Norton who is certain to blow away fans of the late, great Louis Prima. They have a legion of fans from swing dance societies across North America, so be sure to bring your dancing shoes. Opening the night is none other than Canada’s Sweetheart of Swing, Alex Pangman.

Toronto West Halloween Fest combines a costume parade through the High Park neighbourhood, followed by an old-fashioned family party, at the Palais Royale. The party, which is expected to attract over 300 guests, will feature magicians, a photo booth, Halloween-inspired finger foods and live music by Jaymz Bee & His Royal Jelly Orchestra. Prizes will be awarded best individual costume, best team costume and best dressed pet in the parade. The Halloween Parade begins at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Our Lady of Mercy Wing entrance on Sunnyside Avenue) at 3pm. To register for the parade (and prizes) please arrive 30-60 minutes prior to that. The parade ends at 4pm at Palais Royale, where the party begins. For more info check their site!
