Juno award winning alto sax player Richard Underhill releases his much-anticipated second album under his own name; joined by the incredible Luis Guerra on piano, Bob Brough on tenor, Mike Milligan on bass and Joe Poole on drums. This is original instrumental jazz at its best!
In case you don't know, Richard is the founder of The Shuffle Demons, and is in The Guinness Book Of World Records for getting 900 sax players to unite at Yonge-Dundas Square to play the "Hockey Night In Canada Theme". He has played with The RJO for almost a decade, is the leader of Blue Rodeo's Bushwhack Horns and has played on countless CD's and gigs as a session musician.

National CD Launch for "2am At The Torch Café"

It's been a busy time for Serafin. The debut CD "2am At The Torch Café" will be in stores nationwide by the end of the month, and in most Toronto record stores on the 29th. Serafin just finished shooting a video for "My Funny Valentine" - soon to be aired on Bravo - and is celebrating the national distribution deal with MapleNationwide / Universal Music Canada with a concert.
Nash The Slash will open with a short set of surreal music and visuals. Serafin is on at 10pm, performing the new CD, and the Royal Jelly Orchestra will perform a special set of jazz for dancing to end the evening. Up tempo grooves featuring vocalists Elizabeth Shepherd, Michael Danso, Genevieve, Julie Michels and Lyne Tremblay. The Sound Of Toronto Jazz Series continues to sell out, so please get your tickets now for "Little Big Horn: A Tribute to the Trumpet" which features Lina Allemano (doing Chet Baker), Alexis Baro (Dizzy Gillespie), Kevin Clark (Louis Armstrong), Chase Sanborn (Clifford Brown) and Kevin Turcotte (Miles Davis). The show will be broadcast in the near future on JAZZ.FM91. (Um, by the way, neither of these young men pictured will be appearing at the concert.)
JAZZ.FM91 is releasing two CD's which will be available through their web site and in selected record shops later this month. "New Standards" (produced by Jaymz Bee) features 15 great instrumental jazz tunes from local composers, and "The Classic Collection from Captain Bob Farnon" (produced by Glen Woodcock) features 27 songs performed in Europe for the troops during WWII.

Young singer/songwriter Larra Skye launches her debut album The World Disappears. Given her prodigious talents, the caliber of musicians who lend their skills to the CD, and the stature of the industry veterans guiding her career, it seems the world has opened up to this talented musician. Havana born guitarist/vocalist/composer/arranger Luis Mario Ochoa celebrates the tenth anniversary of the debut recording of his Canadian-based Latin Jazz nonet, Cimarron with the release of the groups third album, also titled Cimarron, which means "free spirit" in Spanish. The CD mixes the rhythms of Cuban Jazz Fusion with hot solos, intricate melodic lines and has an irresistible energy and "sabor" that is contagious!
